Johnson-Jeffries Fight

jjlarge2In July, 1910, Reno’s population temporarily quadrupled when an estimated 30,000 spectators and would-be spectators came to town to watch the “Fight of the Century” when Jim Jeffries, “the Great White Hope,” came out of retirement to attempt to regain the Heavyweight Championship of the World from the infamous Jack Johnson. He did not succeed. Reno’s economy got a boost from this major event!
